class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Workshop presenting the European project AFROEQUALITY, focusing on combating Afrophobia, racism, and hate speech, as well as empowering African Diaspora communities through digital participation and active citizenship, was hosted by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens on Friday, 15 May 2026. The workshop took place at the Department of Communication and Media Studies of NKUA, within the framework of the project \u201cEmpowering People of African Descent: Hate Speech, Violence and Racism \u2013 Training on Digital Skills and Civic Participation (AFROEQUALITY),\u201d which is funded by the European Union\u2019s CERV programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event opened with welcome addresses by the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs of NKUA, Professor Sophia Papaioannou, the Secretary General for Equality and Human Rights Katerina Patsogianni, and Michalis Afolagiyan from the ANASA Cultural Center. The speakers highlighted the importance of combating discrimination, promoting equality, and strengthening social cohesion through collaboration among universities, institutions, and civil society communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The main part of the workshop featured presentations of the results and activities of the AFROEQUALITY project by the partnership members. Professor and Chair of the Department of Communication and Media Studies at NKUA, and the project\u2019s scientific coordinator, Liza Tsaliki, presented the key findings of the study entitled \u201cRecognizing White Privilege,\u201d emphasizing the forms of institutional and everyday racism experienced by members of the African Diaspora in Greece, Italy, and Spain. At the same time, Mohamed Bashir Omar from the organization CESIE discussed the collaborative actions implemented with African Diaspora communities in the three countries, while Giota Arvaniti from SCI-Hellas presented the conclusions drawn from intercultural initiatives in Greece. Marina Natsia from CONVERGENCE highlighted the development of the AFROEQUALITY App, an interactive digital empowerment application that utilizes socio-technological tools to promote diversity and inclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Particular interest was also generated by the roundtable discussion that followed, focusing on the ongoing challenges faced by African Diaspora communities in Greece, Italy, and Spain, and the need to formulate policies aimed at combating structural racism and Afrophobia. Representatives from academia, civil society organizations, and members of the African Diaspora participated in the discussion, emphasizing the need to create inclusive public policies and safe spaces for expression and participation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The AFROEQUALITY project, coordinated by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in collaboration with the organizations CONVERGENCE (SYGKLISI), CESIE, SCI Hellas, and the company InStrategies, focuses on understanding the social inclusion and cultural identity of African Diaspora communities, combating
